The Sudanese Centre for Policy Studies (SCPS) emerged following the Sudanese Revolution in 2018, the formation of a transitional government, and two years of transition experience, recognizing a strong and urgent need to develop public policies based on research, knowledge, and the experiences of other countries.
SCPS is an independent, non-profit institution that operates as a public policy research center. The founders came together in a collaborative mission, working with all potential partners to attempt to transform the way Sudanese people practice politics, and how they discuss issues of governance, development, and democratic transition, with the aim of consolidating democracy and building a modern state in Sudan.
As a local think tank, we bridge rigorous and evidence-based research with participatory and locally driven processes. Alongside traditional research, we employ innovative tools, including scenario mapping, horizon scanning, and stakeholder analysis, to understand Sudan’s shifting realities through our four core themes: the economy, civil society and democratization, security governance, and foreign affairs. Our activities include research publications, convenings and workshops, and strategic engagements with aligned partners. Rooted in historical context yet forward-looking in nature, SCPS works to co-create policy pathways that center Sudanese experts in reimagining the country’s sociopolitical future.
